How to tell what version of Windows you are running


The fastest way to tell what version of Windows you are running is to find the My Computer icon on your desktop as shown below. (Of course if you don't have a desktop and no My Computer icon, you are probably running the old Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroups 3.11 a.k.a. Windows 3.x/MSDOS. You will certainly want to upgrade as soon as possible.)

Then right click on the My Computer icon and select (left-click) on the Properties command as shown below. 

The General Tab will have System identification information with the Windows version. For example, the computer pictured below is running Windows 98 Second Edition.
